7 Time Management Tips

Posted on: April 5, 2012

No matter how hard you try, your to do list just doesn’t seem to get any smaller. In fact, it looks like the list keeps growing!

Here are 7 tips that can help you be more organized:

  • Wake up early – Getting up before others in your household gives you some time to relax before you take on the day or to start an errand. You will be surprised how much you can get done in 30 minutes or an hour.
  • Lists – I love lists! I make a list for everything – grocery list, to do list, packing list, etc. You don’t know how many times this has saved me from forgetting to buy milk or bread or cheese at the grocery store.
  • Prioritize – Let’s face it, you are never going to run out of things to put down on your “to do” lists. There are multiple errands to run, things that needs to be fixed, phone calls to be made, shopping that needs to be done, etc. Prioritize, break the tasks into 3 categories: urgent, needs to get done, nice to get done.
  • Planner – I carry a planner where ever I go. I know I know, you are probably wondering why I am carrying around a planner when I can just put it on my phone. Sometimes I like to take a quick glance at the upcoming day or week or month. For some reason, I just like having a physical planner to look at. It helps me be organized and all my appointments, schedules, meetings are right there in front of me.
  • Run errands on your break – If you work outside your home and you get an hour lunch, use that time to make a quick run to the grocery store, to drop/pick up prescriptions, return a library book, etc. This also saves you money since you don’t have much time to shop around.
  • Multi-tasking – You have a load in the laundry? Do the dishes while you wait for the laundry to get done. Multi tasking is second nature to us!
  • Be flexible – Okay, so you made your list, prioritized, used your time wisely and you still weren’t able to get all the things done. It’s okay! Tomorrow is another day!
