Prep My Journey

Archive for June 2012

Here is a list that caught my attention. I believe this was from Yahoo! a while ago.

Ten cities that spoil kids the most:

1. New York, NY
2. Brooklyn, NY
3. Miami, FL
4. Minneapolis, MN
5. Tulsa, OK
6. Dallas, TX
7. Atlanta, GA
8. Los Angeles, CA
9. San Diego, CA
10.Ft Worth, TX

I am surprised that LA is only 8th on the list. I thought it would be in the top 5.

What do you think about this list?

What’s with me and Target? Every time I go in, I spend at least $50 (used to be $100, talk about will power).

As soon as I set foot in the store, it’s hypnotic. Mind you, I go in with a written list.

The other day I decided to make a quick trip. I glanced down at my list and stared at

Bins -2

Bins. 2. got it.

I grab a cart and make a mad dash to the bins aisle ( I know my way around the store better than my way around my house). As I am half walking, half running something catches the corner of my eye. Should I stop? No, I really shouldn’t! By the time I make the decision not to stop, I am already face to face with the product. Wait! How did that happen?!

I make my way to the cash register and glance at my cart. So much for the shopping list.

Did I mention I forgot the bins?

(Target didn’t pay me to write this. I just really, really like Target.)

I had a $5 coupon for Old Navy and went in thinking I will most likely come out with a tank top. If you have an iphone, you can download an app called Snap Appy and everytime you take a pic of the old navy logo you can win some prizes among other things (vocab, definitions, etc). It lets you take a few pic of the logo everyday.

As soon as I went inside I saw a rack with beach dresses on clearance. I went straight to it since I have been looking for one for a while. To my surprise it was marked down to $8.49. I thought I scored a dress for $3.49 after the coupon. I was super excited and headed to the checkout line. Imagine my surprise when the cashier looked at me in astonishment and said I owed $0.98. What??!! I can’t even get a cup of coffee for $0.98!

Turns out for a short time they are taking additional 30% off clearance.

$8.49 – $2.555 (additional 30% off) – $5 (coupon) = $0.94 + $0.04 (tax)

= $0.98 (grand total)

SCORE!!

Baby Zone did an article on toddlers (between ages 2 1/2 – 3) that were happier and less anxious when they took 1 hour naps daily.

Easier said than done right? I don’t know why kids fight nap time. Given the chance, I would jump at the chance of taking a nap in the middle of the day. I think most moms would.

The article goes on to say that missing too many naps can lead to toddlers having more temper tantrums and set them up for “mood disorders and other mental health issues.”

Here are some things you can try to ease your toddler into a nap.

Routines – It helps to keep the same nap time everyday. This way they know what’s coming.
Play Soothing Music – Fast music will just get them all excited and wound up. We don’t want that.
Read – Try reading a book or two.

Just know you are not alone, lot of kids fight nap time.
